After one year of being vegan in Dubai I was expecting to start struggling to find more amazing vegan menus and food at some point. However I’m more than excited to announce that there’s still so much out there, what I haven’t tried yet and that I want to share with all of you in the future! Especially after having been to Omnia by Silvena last week, which is -in my opinion- offering the best vegan menu in a meat-serving restaurant in Dubai, I can’t wait to discover more in 2017! But for now I’d like to write about why I was so impressed by the menu & dishes at Omnia by Silvena in Downtown.
Silvena Rowe, celebrity chef from the UK and owner of Omnia Gourmet (in Jumeirah Fishing Village) as well as Omnia Blue (at Mall of the Emirates) established her fine dining flagship venue on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard in Downtown in 2015. Not only the menu indicates its exclusiveness: with a two-story open kitchen and a fancy white and modern decoration, super shiny cutlery the restaurant seems to represent luxurious dining like no other. To be completely honest I have to admit that I was a little frightened to visit Omnia by Silvena as I felt like I wasn’t dressed up enough for the venue. However as soon as I set foot into the restaurant the staff did their best to make me feel comfortable during the entire dinner (especially since there was only one other couple dining while I was there I felt a little awkward but amazingly well served).
The service was super friendly and quick and I enjoyed gazing into the dark through the two-story high glass facade, watching people passing by on the busy boulevard.
There is a separate vegan menu available with several starters, mains and an endless seeming dessert menu! The cuisine is international but you can find many Emirati & Middle Eastern inspired dishes. I started with a Roasted Organic Pumpkin Soup and Avocado Bruschetta on home made Focaccia.
While the soup was delicious, the bruschetta wowed me even more: it was simply the perfect combination of home made focaccia, which itself tasted awesome already, topped with avocado, radish, lettuce and home made pesto.
As mains I tried the Organic Kale Ceasar Salad (yes! vegan ceasar salad!) and the Spaghetti with vegan parmesan. Both dishes were unique on its own: I liked the ceasar salad because I simply haven’t eaten one for over a year now and because of the crunchiness and freshness of the kale. The spaghetti with cherry tomato sauce and parmesan made out of pine nuts were really tasty as well; fresh, full of flavor and creamy. As a main on its own the ceasar salad would probably not be enough to fill you up though.
Last but definitely not least I had to make my choice from their seemingly endless vegan dessert menu: nine (!) vegan, paleo & sugar-free options included the Raspberry Tart and the Boudino Mousse, which I ordered. Both desserts already looked fantastic: decorated with fresh berries and beautifully presented I didn’t expect them to taste that amazing as well: the Raspberry Tart was made out of almonds, dates and coconut yogurt, served cold and absolutely delicious. As a chocolate-lover the Boudino Mousse (chocolate & coconut cream) was my highlight though: the true chocolate taste was so rich and satisfying.
I enjoyed my dinner at Omnia by Silvena – and every single aspect of it – fully and don’t have a single thing to complain about. Even the prices were more than appropriate if not even a little cheap (the pasta was priced exactly the same as comparable ones in well-know American chain restaurants). I’m surprised the restaurant wasn’t busier and hope many of you will try it & have a similar experience in the future!
