February 2019 Update:
I’m still waiting for a more vegan-friendly menu and vegan cheesecake. There haven’t been any major updates to the menu at all so besides the Vegan Cobb Salad and some sides you’ll always have to ask to alter the dish to be plant-based (I still come back several times per year for that salad though!).
Spending my lunch break / after work dinner at the Cheesecake Factory was kind of part of my weekly routine when I first moved to Dubai and started working at Mall of the Emirates. Always having to wait for a table and having way too many sweet potato fries made me break this routine after a couple of months though! Luckily I can say, I went back there last week and was positively surprised about their updated menu! And just in case you only had one question in mind: Sorry, I asked, and there’s still no vegan cheesecake!
While browsing through their new menu I got kindly reminded on one of the reasons why I love coming to the Cheesecake Factory: the whole wheat bread they bring to your table as an appetizer for free – it’s so sweet and healthy at the same time, soft inside, crunchy outside and always served warm. You can even ask them for the whole wheat one or just to bring you more. Obviously it’s being served with butter, but it’s so good that you don’t even need anything to have it with!
Flicking through one of the biggest menus on the planet (It’s about 20 pages in total!) I spotted the new “Super Food” section. Personally, I’m not a big fan of everyone labeling their dishes with “superfood” lately, since in my eyes it’s just a marketing term. However, right underneath I found the “Vegan Cobb Salad” – and again only the name made me having to try it! As expected from the Cheesecake Factory it was a huge plate with a great selection of fresh vegetables, beans and seeds (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, green beans, asparagus, quinoa, roasted beets, avocado, chickpeas and sunflower seeds) topped with a creamy vegan house vinaigrette and I’d absolutely have it again! Normally I would have gone for the Kale and Quinoa Salad (no cheese). There are a few more new salads on their new menu which I’m definitely planning on trying at some point in the future though such as: the Falafel Salad (no cheese, change dressing), the California Guacamole Salad (no cheese) and the Super Antioxidant Salad.
Additionally to the Vegan Cobb Salad we ordered the Veggie Burger (ask to remove the mayo and cheese), which is probably the number one reason why we are even going to the Cheesecake Factory. The Burger is one of the best vegan Burgers I have tried so far! It’s made out of brown rice, farro, mushrooms, black beans and onion and just tastes more like a burger than vegetables! You can even get it in a small version from the Skinnylicious Menu, since it’s super filling! Also, if you prefer sweet potato fries over normal fries you can ask to swap the fries that come with the burger.
And, I don’t want anyone to overeat anything, but sometimes I even get sweet potatoes as an additional side dish because they are so good! If salads and burgers are not your go-to at the moment try their “Evelyn’s Favorite Pasta” (with broccoli, oven-dried tomato, roasted eggplants, peppers, artichoke, olives, garlic and pine nuts) or just snack on the Soy-Glazed Edamame, guacamole, fresh green beans, fresh broccoli, sautéed spinach or fresh asparagus.
Even though the Cheesecake Factory isn’t know for their great vegan options (I mean, it’s called the CHEESEcake Factory), I appreciate the efforts they have put into updating their menu to be more vegan-friendly! I’ll continue to ask for a vegan cheesecake / dessert and maybe one day that dream will become true! Until then I’ll continue stopping by there to enjoy one of the best vegan burgers and sweet potato fries and try more of their salads. Last tip: It’s the Cheesecake Factory; it’s super nice to go with family and friends, sometimes a little crowded, but if you haven’t been yet, be aware – their portions are gigantic (and not too cheap either)! I recommend calling to book a table.
